Biography
Thomas Scott Baldwin pioneered the early days of aviation, designing and flying balloons and dirigibles that captured the imagination of the American public. His daring demonstrations and inventive spirit helped prove the value of powered flight and inspired future generations of aviators.
Baldwin later trained military pilots and contributed to early Army aviation programs, laying groundwork for the aerial forces that would defend the nation. He now rests at Arlington National Cemetery among those whose talents elevated the nation’s security.
