Thomas Shields Clarke, born in 1860, devoted himself to the world of art, capturing the textures of daily life and encouraging young creatives to explore their visions while Pittsburgh's cultural institutions blossomed.
He shared his work with the community in humble fashion, and when he left in 1920 friends laid him to rest at Allegheny Cemetery with gratitude for his inspiring eye.
