Tom Richardson

1870–1912 (age 42)

Biography

Tom Richardson's blistering pace and unrelenting spirit made him one of the most formidable fast bowlers of his era, thrilling crowds for Nottinghamshire and England between the 1890s and his final season. His approach combined fierce determination with a respect for the game, and he earned admiration for the way he carried himself on and off the pitch.

Illness dimmed his physical strength in later years, but he remained engaged with cricket's traditions and friends paid tribute to his contributions when he died in 1912; he now rests in Richmond Cemetery where admirers of the sport remember his daring performances.
