Ulysses Mercur

Biography

Born in 1818 in Pennsylvania, Ulysses Mercur pursued the law and served his state in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he championed measured policy and the rule of law during a turbulent national era.

After leaving Congress he returned to the bench as a justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, guiding his decisions with a steady sense of fairness, and he now rests at Oak Hill Cemetery, a quiet witness to a lifelong devotion to public service.
