Biography
Varvara Turkestanova (1775–1819) served as a lady-in-waiting, a position of honor and responsibility within the Russian imperial court. As a woman of the nobility, she participated in court life and maintained the social and ceremonial functions essential to the functioning of the imperial household during the reigns of Catherine the Great and Alexander I.
Turkestanova's forty-four years of life reflected the experiences of noble women in late 18th and early 19th-century Russia. She was interred at Lazarev Cemetery in Moscow, a burial place befitting her station and court service.
