W. Herbert Dunton was a painter who helped define the visual vocabulary of the American West, producing bold depictions of cowboys, horses, and rugged landscapes. His energetic brushwork and attention to light made him a key figure in the Taos art colony and a co-founder of the Taos Society of Artists.
