Biography
William Bailey kept a mercantile house in Plattsburgh that supplied Lake Champlain communities with the hardware, grain, and provisions they needed, and he helped sustain the town through war and peace alike.
He took part in civic improvements, encouraged fair dealing, and lent his support to schools and churches so that commerce and community might both flourish on the northern shore.
