Biography

William Burleigh, born in 1785, studied law and was elected to represent Maine in the U.S. House, where he spoke for the hopes of his constituents and supported the young state's maritime trade.

He died in 1827 and was interred at Portland Street Cemetery, leaving a reputation for listening closely to the needs of the district he served.
