Biography

Marcia Oakes Woodbury was born in 1865 in Massachusetts and pursued her artistic gift with energy, studying at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and continuing her training in Paris with the elite of an international community of painters. Her work often captured quiet moments of domestic life, blending sympathy for her subjects with a keen eye for color and light.

She returned to America with honors and exhibited widely, but her promising career was cut short when illness claimed her in 1913; yet the gentle realism of her canvases continues to remind viewers of the resilience and beauty of everyday people.
