William C. Oates

Biography

William C. Oates, born in 1833, answered the call to service and later turned toward public life to help heal a nation recovering from war. As a soldier and statesman, he worked tirelessly to bridge divides and to advocate for responsible, forward-looking governance.

He carried that sense of purpose into retirement, continuing to mentor younger leaders and to remember those who had sacrificed alongside him. He is interred at Oakwood Cemetery, where his dedication to reconciliation and public service is honored.
