Biography

William Cruden (1726–1807) was a man of Aberdeen who lived through much of the eighteenth century, witnessing the transformation of Scotland from the aftermath of the Jacobite risings through the Scottish Enlightenment. He maintained his connections to his community throughout his long life.

William Cruden's eighty-one years reflected the changing fortunes and circumstances of Aberdeen during a period of considerable historical significance. He is remembered through his burial at St Nicholas Church, a testament to his place within the civic and religious life of his community.
