Biography

William Daniel Conybeare combined his calling as a clergyman with a passionate interest in geology, helping to lay the foundations of the discipline in England. His works, including joint studies of the British strata, brought fossils and coastal formations into sharper focus.

While serving the church at Llandaff, he advocated for harmony between science and faith and inspired students to observe the earth with reverence; his memory is preserved within Llandaff Cathedral.
