Biography
William H. Stead answered the nation’s need with valor, standing shoulder to shoulder with his fellow citizens in defense of the Union. His dedication and moral character were a source of reassurance to the men under his charge and to the families waiting at home.
Following the war, he returned to civilian endeavors with the same sense of duty that had defined his military service, helping to nurture a sense of peace and stability in his community; he is commemorated at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery for a life lived in faithful service.
