Biography

William IV, a sailor by inclination, ascended the throne in 1830 and steered the kingdom toward needed reforms, including the widening of representation at Westminster and measures that eased longstanding tensions at home.

He retained a warm regard for his naval comrades and for Windsor life, honoring the service of others and encouraging a sense of duty that sustained him through his final years.
