Biography

William M. Lowe (1842–1882) was a physician and public servant whose compassion for fellow Alabamians led him to Congress, where he championed the rights of veterans and the common people. He combined a healer’s heart with a legislator’s resolve, working to bridge the divisions that lingered after the war.

Though his life was cut short, his example inspired others to confront political challenges with sincerity and to place the needs of the people before personal gain.
