William Read Miller

Biography

William Read Miller (1823–1887) served as the 12th Governor of Arkansas from 1877 to 1881, guiding the state through a challenging period of recovery and reconciliation after the Civil War. His tenure was marked by efforts to stabilize finances, promote public education, and restore confidence in government institutions.

He was laid to rest in Mount Holly Cemetery, where the respect of the people he served endures in the monuments that surround his resting place and the memory of his commitment to the common good.
