Biography

William S. Ladd was a banker and civic leader whose energy guided Portland through its formative years; he co-founded Ladd & Tilton Bank, one of the Pacific Northwest’s earliest financial institutions, and served as mayor, advocating for order and opportunity.

He also supported cultural and charitable causes that nurtured the city’s sense of identity, leaving behind a model of civic engagement worthy of remembrance at River View Cemetery.
