Biography
William Vane, 3rd Duke of Cleveland, was a prominent member of the British aristocracy and a significant political figure of his era. Born in 1792, he inherited the dukedom and played an active role in the affairs of state and his local community throughout his life.
The Duke was respected for his contributions to public life and his stewardship of his estates. He died in 1864 and was interred in the Church of St Mary in Staindrop, the parish church of his ancestral lands, where his memory remains part of the local heritage.
