Biography
William Widgery moved from commerce into law and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican, advocating for Maine's maritime communities during his terms. He also contributed to early state governance as a member of commissions that addressed trade and the judiciary.
After retiring from national politics he returned to the Eastern Cemetery region, where he continued to practice law, mentor younger leaders, and support the prosperity of his adopted home until his passing in 1822.
