Adoniram Judson

Biography

Adoniram Judson was a pioneering American missionary who dedicated his life to spreading Christianity in Burma (present-day Myanmar). Born in 1788, he became one of the most influential religious figures of his era, establishing churches and translating biblical texts into Burmese, leaving a lasting impact on missionary work in Southeast Asia.

Judson's legacy extends beyond his missionary achievements; he was also a prolific writer and scholar whose works influenced American Protestant thought throughout the nineteenth century. His commitment to his faith and his contributions to cross-cultural religious education made him a respected figure in both American and international missionary circles until his death in 1850.
