Asa Thurston

Biography

Asa Thurston was born in 1787 and was among the earliest missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands, bringing both spiritual teachings and the foundations of written language to the people he befriended. His steady faith and deep respect for the culture around him guided him through decades of both joy and challenge.

He rests at Oʻahu Cemetery, where his memory inspires those who value courage, faithfulness, and an earnest willingness to serve beyond one’s own shores.
