Biography
Gerrit P. Judd, born in 1803, came to Hawaiʻi as a missionary physician and became an influential advisor to the Hawaiian monarchy. His medical training, combined with a deep commitment to public service, helped establish schools, hospitals, and the rudiments of a constitutional government.
Over the course of his career he navigated new political landscapes with care, earning the respect of both the Hawaiian chiefs and foreign residents; his final resting place at Oʻahu Cemetery honors a life devoted to the well-being of the islands.
