Alcée Louis la Branche, born in 1806, devoted much of his life to the civic life of Louisiana, serving as a respected voice during times of growth. His calm temperament and thoughtful leadership helped to steady the community through the middle decades of the 19th century.
He cherished the people of his native state and encouraged unity across cultures, leaving a legacy of measured idealism. He now rests at Metairie Cemetery where friends and descendants honor his memory.
