Born in 1826, Anna Hale Barnard dedicated her adult years to advancing social reform, calling attention to the needs of the most vulnerable and striving to create more equitable opportunities for women and families during a time of great change in the nation.
Her steadfast compassion and hopeful voice encouraged others to carry forward the causes she championed, and her memory is cherished among those who visit her gravesite at Woodlawn Cemetery.
