Biography

Archibald C. Godwin, born in 1831, rose from a Virginia legal family to become a Confederate brigadier general, serving in the cavalry and earning a reputation for bold action. He fought in many of the war's hardest campaigns and offered his leadership to weary comrades during the Siege of Petersburg.

Godwin is buried in Stonewall Cemetery, his memory kept by the men who served beside him. Though the conflict was divisive, his dedication to his troops is recorded in the annals of military history.
