Biography

Arthur MacArthur Jr. fought in the Civil War as a young officer, earning the Medal of Honor for rallying troops up Missionary Ridge and later rising to command corps and departments during the Indian Wars and beyond. His devotion to duty and steady temperament made him a trusted leader in turbulent times, and he carried those qualities into the Philippines and other posts where he represented the Army.

He remained a guardian of Army traditions while mentoring a new generation of officers, including his son Douglas, ensuring that the service upheld the highest standards of honor and sacrifice.
