Biography

Augustine Joseph Hickey Duganne (1823–1884) wove journalism, poetry, and social commentary to highlight the struggles and courage of working Americans, drawing from his experiences in the mid-19th century press to advocate for reform and national unity.

His writing left an imprint on the literary and civic communities of his day, and after his passing he was laid to rest at Cypress Hills National Cemetery, where readers can remember the compassion in his work.
