Biography

Thomas W. Egan (1836–1887) rose from New York volunteer ranks to become a Union brigadier general, earning a reputation for daring leadership at battles such as Chancellorsville and the Wilderness while serving with the Army of the Potomac.

After the war he remained connected to his comrades, and when he died he was interred in Cypress Hills National Cemetery, where visitors remember his courage and wit.
