Biography
Benjamin Henry Latrobe was a British-born architect who played a defining role in shaping the architectural language of the young United States, often called the father of American architecture. He oversaw the construction of the United States Capitol dome, introduced polished Greek Revival lines to federal structures, and mentored a generation of builders.
He spent his final years in New Orleans, contributing to the city’s architectural fabric and ensuring that public spaces reflected both dignity and harmony, and now rests in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1 among the citizens he enriched.
