Biography
Cardiss Collins was a powerful voice in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly a quarter century, representing Chicago’s south side and championing economic opportunity, women’s rights, and consumer protection. As chair of science and commerce subcommittees, she steered investments in technology, health, and education that lifted countless communities.
Even after retiring from Congress, Collins continued to mentor young leaders and support nonprofit efforts, and Arlington National Cemetery now honors her commitment to public service and the barriers she helped dismantle.
