Biography
Carnot Posey, born in 1818 in Mississippi, practiced law and served in the state legislature, earning a reputation for calm judgment before the outbreak of war.
He accepted a brigadier general's commission when the conflict began, leading his men through challenging campaigns in Virginia, and he was mortally wounded in the summer of 1863; he is interred at the University of Virginia Cemetery as a reminder of his steady leadership.
