Biography

Carter Littlepage Stevenson, born in 1817, was a committed military officer whose steady leadership during the Civil War earned him the respect of his peers; he is remembered for guiding his men with calm determination through some of the conflict’s most trying campaigns.

After the war he returned to civilian life with the same quiet resolve, supporting the recovery of his community and sharing the lessons of discipline and perseverance that marked his career, now memorialized in Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery.
