Biography

Charles A. Zimmermann, born in 1862, joined the Naval Academy as a virtuoso musician and quickly became known for his ability to translate the spirit of the service into stirring melodies.

His most famous march, "Anchors Aweigh," gave voice to the pride of midshipmen and sailors, and his influence as a composer and bandleader endures at the United States Naval Academy Cemetery.
