Biography

Charles Brantley Aycock, known as the Education Governor, worked to expand public schools and raise standards for teachers across North Carolina, believing that every town deserved a sturdy schoolhouse.

After leaving the governor's office he continued to champion educational improvement and traveled widely to encourage civic leaders, and he rests at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
