Biography
Charles Mason (1812–1862) lived during a pivotal period in American history, coming of age as the nation expanded westward and grappled with questions of slavery and union. His fifty years witnessed the rapid industrialization of New England and the growing tensions that would lead to civil conflict.
Though his life was cut short at mid-century, Mason left an impression upon those who knew him. He was laid to rest at Mount Auburn Cemetery, where his memory is preserved among the notable figures of his generation.
