Biography
Clement A. Evans served as a Confederate general during the Civil War and later turned his energies toward the ministry and historical writing, hoping to preserve the stories of his soldiers while seeking reconciliation across a divided nation. He became known for his dedication to recording the experiences of the Southern states, compiling comprehensive histories that informed generations of readers.
In the years after the conflict he also worked with veterans’ organizations, encouraging remembrance and respect, and in 1911 he was laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery amid the many who had shared in the trials of the war.
