David M. Shoup received the Medal of Honor for bravery in the Pacific Theater and later served as Commandant of the Marine Corps, guiding the Corps with integrity.

In retirement he spoke out for diplomacy and fiscal restraint, and those values are recalled as he lies at Arlington National Cemetery.
