Ellen Mordecai

Biography

Ellen Mordecai was a steadfast presence in her community, and though the particulars of her life may no longer appear in many records, the kindness of her neighbors remembered her as a caring figure across decades of change.

She now lies at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, where visitors may pause to honor a woman who shared in the shaping of Raleigh's early history.
