Biography

Elliot Hersey Goodwin, born 1874, took great interest in the cultural and educational circles that flourished near Mount Auburn, offering his time and spirit to the institutions that nurtured learning and reflection. He believed that an engaged citizenry and well-tended civic spaces made for a stronger community.

He welcomed conversations with scholars and neighbors alike, lent support to local lectures and charitable events, and helped ensure that the neighborhoods in and around Boston remained hospitable to curiosity and thoughtful exchange.
