Biography

Ephraim Wales Bull devoted decades to selecting and crossbreeding apples at his home in Connecticut, eventually introducing the McIntosh Red, a cultivar celebrated for its crisp sweetness and aromatic skin that has delighted orchards across North America.

He tended his beloved trees throughout his life, welcoming fellow horticulturists to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery’s surroundings to learn from his work and to honor a legacy rooted in patience and curiosity.
