Biography
Frank Friday Fletcher built a distinguished naval career, rising through the ranks during the Spanish-American War and later in the Caribbean, where he demonstrated decisive leadership amid complex regional developments. He stressed the importance of gunnery accuracy and fleet readiness as the United States expanded its presence overseas.
For his command during the Veracruz intervention he received the Medal of Honor, and he went on to serve as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet, always emphasizing honor, professionalism, and the welfare of sailors under his command, a legacy reflected in his Arlington resting place.
