Biography

Frank Newcomb spent decades in the Revenue Cutter Service, where he commanded cutters patrolling America's coasts and the waters of Alaska, enforcing laws and providing assistance to mariners in distress. His courage and compassion were especially evident when crews faced storms and icy seas while protecting commerce and communities.

Newcomb also played a leadership role in training new recruits, emphasizing discipline, seamanship, and a humanitarian spirit that defined the service; his steady hand helped prepare cutters for the duties that would later be carried out by the Coast Guard. Even in retirement he remained a champion of the service's mission.
