Biography

David Rumph Jones came into the world in 1825 and answered a lifetime call to military service, training with the United States Army before the nation split apart. His experience, prudence, and capacity to steady troops made him a valued leader as the Confederacy sought to organize its armies.

He guided infantrymen and officers through major campaigns, earning the respect of comrades for his calm presence amid battle's chaos, yet illness claimed him in 1863 before the war ended.
