Biography
George Pickett was a Confederate general best remembered for leading Pickett's Charge, one of the most famous military assaults of the Civil War during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. A Virginia native and West Point graduate, Pickett was known for his devotion to his troops and his unwavering courage in battle. Though the charge ultimately failed, it cemented his place in American military history as a symbol of Confederate valor and sacrifice.
After the war's conclusion, Pickett struggled with the loss and the South's defeat, but he eventually found peace in his later years. He lived until 1875, witnessing the beginning of Reconstruction and the nation's efforts to heal from the devastating conflict. Pickett was laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, where he is remembered as one of the Civil War's most iconic and tragic military figures.
