Biography

Angus William McDonald, born in 1799, built a reputation in the Virginia militia and saw long service defending his state’s interests. When the Civil War began, McDonald answered the call again, offering his experience to the Confederate cause despite his advancing years.

He died in 1864 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, where his marble marker honors a lifetime of military service and the conviction with which he met the upheavals of his time.
