Biography
Jefferson Davis served as the President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 until the Confederacy's collapse in 1865. A Mississippi statesman and former U.S. Senator, Davis led the Southern nation through the Civil War with determination and conviction, becoming one of the most prominent figures of the conflict. His leadership during this tumultuous period defined his historical legacy and shaped the course of American history.
After the war's end, Davis faced imprisonment and legal challenges but ultimately lived to see the South's reconstruction. He spent his final years writing and reflecting on the Confederacy's history, becoming a symbol of the Lost Cause narrative. Davis was laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, where his grave remains a significant historical landmark.
