Biography

John Mayo II was a Virginia landowner whose life spanned the Revolutionary era and the early years of American independence. Born in 1760, he inherited and expanded upon his family's substantial property holdings in Virginia.

Mayo lived to the age of fifty-eight, establishing himself as a person of consequence in Virginia society. His final resting place at Hollywood Cemetery, among the state's most distinguished citizens, reflects his prominence and the respect accorded to his family name.
