John Harvie

Biography

John Harvie was a Virginia planter of considerable influence during the late colonial and early federal periods. Born in 1742, he came of age in a society where plantation ownership and agricultural enterprise formed the foundation of wealth and social standing.

Harvie's life of sixty-five years encompassed the American Revolution and the early decades of the republic. His burial at Hollywood Cemetery, a place of honor for Virginia's notable citizens, reflects his prominence within the planter class of his native state.
