Biography

Frederick Philipse was born in 1755 into a family that had long held significant landholdings and influence in New York. As a landowner, he continued the family tradition of substantial property ownership and the wealth and standing that accompanied such holdings in early American society.

Frederick lived through the American Revolution and the establishment of the new nation, dying in 1829 at the age of seventy-four. His burial in Trinity Church Cemetery reflects both his family's historical prominence and his own position as a man of property and consequence in New York during the early decades of the United States.
