Biography

Frankie Muse Freeman dedicated her legal career to breaking down barriers, serving as lead counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund in Missouri as she challenged segregation in housing and education.

As the first African American woman appointed to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, she shaped national policy on equal opportunity while mentoring younger advocates, and her contributions are remembered from her resting place at Calvary Cemetery.
